Thailand Dong Fang Mei Ren – A special Oolong for gourmets

This oolong, also known as Oriental Beauty or "champagne oolong", comes from the mountainous regions of northern Thailand and was produced in autumn 2020 from the Taiwanese Chin-hsin Da Pa variety. Thanks to a unique technique in which tiny cicadas nibble on the tea leaves, this tea develops its characteristic muscatel aroma and a gentle caramel note that makes it particularly distinctive.

Appearance & Aroma:
The leaves show a beautiful mixture of carmine and hazelnut brown tones, interspersed with silver tips. Even before brewing, an intense, fruity and floral aroma develops, reminiscent of tropical fruits, berries, moscatel wine and a delicate sweetness. The finished infusion shimmers clearly in a soft, golden tone.

The Dong Fang Mei Ren impresses with its complex and profound aroma. Its taste is a rich mixture of sweet honey, floral notes and a hint of wild berries. A subtle acidity, similar to grape juice, ensures freshness, while a light sweetness lingers in the aftertaste. The tea envelops the palate silkily and leaves a pleasant, warm note reminiscent of fresh baked goods.

The special:
This oolong is produced using a special process in which the plants are protected by the bite of small insects. This promotes the formation of terpenes in the leaves, which enhances the unique taste and aroma of the tea. Its lightly rolled and gently fermented leaves make this tea a harmonious and mature pleasure.

To achieve the full potential of this tea, we recommend hot water at around 100°C. Use 4-5 g of tea per 100 ml of water. Rinse the leaves briefly with hot water and allow the first infusion to brew for just 2-4 seconds. With each subsequent infusion, the brewing time can be adjusted to taste.
